Here is why Bill Gates appreciates Pakistan.
Learn about the reason Bill Gates appreciated Pakistan and Pakistan’s initiatives against COVID-19.
Those who do not know Pakistan is in South Asia. A country sharing borders with China to the North, India to the East, Iran and Afghanistan to the West and is also bordered by Arabian Sea to the South. Pakistan is one of the world’s most populated countries with a population exceeding 212.2 million.
Pakistan is also declared nuclear weapons state and has the sixth largest standing armed forces in the world. Pakistan is a developing country with challenging problems such as overpopulation, poverty, corruption and illiteracy.
COVID-19 Impact On Pakistan:
Illiteracy rate was one of the reason that contributed to the increase in COVID-19 cases throughout the country.
Many individuals refused to accept that COVID-19 is a deadly disease and there are many who still don’t consider COVID as a disease. They rather find it to be fake news from the entire world, even though there are people dying from this disease daily. That’s why many don’t follow the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure).
COVID-19 cases increased in Pakistan regularly as people refused to follow the SOPs issued by the government. Pakistan even broke its highest record of positive cases in a day was above 8,000.
A developing country is already facing many challenges, and COVID-19 further increased the challenges faced by Pakistan.
Education sector has been little developed but still not enough. Pakistan didn’t use advanced technology for teaching, and online lectures/classes have always been considered not useful in Pakistan. As COVID-19 arose, it forced all educational institutes to shift into providing online classes as it is the only alternative throughout the globe. Teachers couldn’t properly convey their lectures through online classes. Internet services aren’t good as well in Pakistan, which further contributed to the student’s loss.
Business startups were deeply affected too and those individuals who would earn daily, to feed their families, suffered horribly. As COVID-19 spread a fear amongst population, fewer people would go out, hence those services couldn’t be bought. As hanging out in groups was not allowed, this affected the areas where individuals would offer their services.
Why Bill Gates Appreciated Pakistan?
As you all know Pakistan is a developing country and is already facing hard challenges to make the country better. COVID-19 created more chaos in Pakistan.
The amount of positive COVID-19 cases increased daily with a huge ratio.
People wouldn’t follow the SOPs because they won’t accept corona virus as a disease.
Despite of all the critical situations, Pakistan created and implements an effective and unique lockdown known to the world as Smart Lockdown. Pakistan’s smart lockdown mainly composed of levels of lockdowns depending on the cases in different areas of cities.
Such as if in a city there are 2 areas with a larger amount, an area with a medium amount and 3 areas with less amount of COVID-19 cases. Each area will have a different level of lockdown like in the first case, all SOPs are obligatory and complete lockdown with few shops open during a specific time period. In the second case, all SOPs are obligatory and partial lockdown with more shops open during a specific time period. In the last case, SOPs should be followed and partial lockdown with more shops open for a larger period.
All educational institutes were closed at the right time, which controlled the possible COVID-19 cases from educational institutes. Dining in restaurants was forbidden, which further controlled the cases. The malls were closed and those shops which were open; they had to strictly follow social distancing and sanitizing every customer was a priority.
Many countries followed Pakistan’s smart lockdown. United Nations appreciated Pakistan’s Smart Lockdown.
Also, when Prime Minister Imran Khan was in call with Bill Gates, they offered Pakistan help and Bill Gates even appreciated Pakistan on their successful implementation of an effective smart lockdown.
Bill Gates also appreciated Pakistan’s success against the novel coronavirus despite resource constraints. The army chief said it executed the success through the mechanism of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) which allowed optimisation of resources.
